Tour Packages Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu

Upon your arrival at the Tribhuwan International Airport, our support team will meet you, then escort you to your hotel. After you check-in and get some refreshments, the senior Sherpa guide will come to meet you and give you a brief orientation about the trek. The rest of the day is reserved for rest. In the evening, you will enjoy a welcome dinner with  authentic Nepalese cuisine.

Day 02: Free day in Kathmandu with visa and trip preparation

Today is a rest day. You can spend the day  resting at your hotel, or if you wish, you can roam the streets of Thamel.

Day 03: Fly from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj: 1 hour

On day 3 of your ‘20-day Kailash Tour via Simikot’, you will take an hour flight to Nepalgunj. Nepalgunj lies in western Nepal and is a gateway to Simikot, Humla. Upon reaching Nepalgunj, you will visit the nearby villages, local markets and mini-zoo.

Day 04: Fly to Simikot (2,985m/9,790ft) and trek to Dharapori (2,360m/7,740ft) 4 – 6 hours

After breakfast, you will take a 40-minute flight to Simikot, from where you can admire the beauty of towering mountain cliffs. From Simikot, you climb up for a while, then descend down to Tuling village. From the village, keep on walking along the Karnali River through villages and jungles until you reach the village of Dharapori.

Day 05: Dharapori to Kermi (2,860m/9,383ft): 5 – 6 hours

The 20 Day Kailash Tour via Simikot’s trail is comparatively flat on day 5. You hike to Kermi along the fields cultivated with buckwheat, rice and potatoes. There are two hot springs on the way, so you can take a bath and soothe your aching muscles and relax your mind.

Day 06: Kermi to Yalbang (2,879m/9,445ft): 5 – 6 hours

Today, you will climb up to Yalbang. The trail is steep until you reach a pass. You then cross a suspension bridge that takes you over the Salli river. From here, you get to enjoy fascinating pine trees and the stunning Karnali River. You will also pay a visit to the Namkha Khyung Dzong Monastery.

Day 07: Yalbang to Tumkot (3,073m/10,082ft): 5 – 6 hours

 

Leaving Yalbang, you ascend above the Karnali River. As you climb up, the smaller bushes give  way to rocky hills and pine woods. After reaching Tumkot, you will visit  the sacred Dhungkar Choezom Monastery.

Day 08: Tumkot to Yari (3,663m/12,017ft): 6 – 7 hours

 

20 Day Kailash Tour via Simikot’s 8th Day comprises of a comparatively easy trek, taking you above the Karnai River. The further you trek, the more you will feel a notable change in vegetation, climate and landscape. You keep walking, enjoying the fascinating short and low Juniper trees until you reach Yari.

Day 09: Yari to Hilsa (3,647m/11,965ft) via Nara La pass: 5 – 6 hours

 

You get up at sunrise and start to trek to Hilsa, passing through the deadly Nara La Pass. After crossing the pass, you get to experience the superb views of the enchanting Tibetan plateau and Yari village. From there, you descend down steeply to Hilsa.

Day 10: Hilsa to Purang (3,772m/12,375ft): 2 – 3 hours

Leaving Hilsa, you cross the Friendship bridge to get  trekking permission from the Chinese officials. You also meet your Tibetan guide there and climb up to Purang, passing the Rinzin Zangpo Gompa and Kangje village. After reaching Purang, you visit  the holy Purang Gompa and the unique 12th century Buddhist Murals.

Day 11: Purang to Montser (4,450m/14,599ft) and sightseeing in Tirtapuri: 3 – 4 hours

On day 11 of your ‘Kailash Tour via Simikot 20  Days’, you take a  4-hour hike to Montser from Purang, passing through the Rakshas and Mansarover lakes. After reaching Montser, you walk to  check out Tritapuri Hot Springs and then return back to Montser to spend the night.

Day 12: Sightseeing of Garuda Valley, then transfer to Darchen (4,560m/14,956ft): 3 – 4 hours

Garuda Valley sits to the southwest of Mt. Kailash. You walk for about 2 hours from Montser to reach the Valley, where you get to visit many mysterious caves and archaeological and historical sites. After exploring the beautiful Garuda Valley, you head towards Darchen to spend the night.

Day 13: First day of Kora: hiking to Dira Puk Monastery (5120m/16,792ft), 5 – 6 hours

Today, you start your Kora (pilgrimage) of Mt. Kailash with a 6-hour hike in a deep valley. You continue walking across the plain to Shershong. Next, you cross a bridge and head towards Chhuku Gompa. From there, the trail leads you to Dirapuk,  where you get to experience the stunning view of the Mt. Kailash.

Day 14: Second day of Kora: hike to Dzutul-puk (4790m/15,765ft): 18km, 6 – 7 hours

On day 14 of your ‘20 Day Kailash Tour via Simikot’, you will face the most difficult section of your tour. You will ascend up to the Drolma La Pass, where you get to view the eye-catching five-colored praying flags. From here, you descend down to Dzutul-puk to spend the night.

Day 15: Third day of Kora: hiking to Darchen (4,560m/15,000ft): 14km, 3 – 4 hours and transfer to Manasarovar

Today, you slowly walk towards Barka Plain. After finishing the sacred Kora of Mt. Kailash, you will enjoy a 2-hour drive to Mansarovar Lake. The Lake is an equally important religious site for both  Hindus and  Buddhists.

Day 16: Tour of the Mansarovar Lake

Today, you visit the gorgeous Mansarovar Lake, which has a perimeter of 90km, making it one of the highest lakes in the world. It is said that the Kora of Mount Kailash is accomplished only with a sacred dip in the lake and a drink of its holy water. You circle the Mansarovar lake by Jeep, and if you have time, you will also visit Chui Gompa, another major site of Mansarovar.

Day 17: Mansarovar to Saga (4,600m/15,088ft) 495 km, 8 – 9 hours

On day 17 of your ‘20-Day Kailash Tour via Simikot’, you take a long drive to Saga. Passing through the holy Chiu Monastery and many fascinating villages. You spend the night in Saga.

Day 18: Saga to Shigatse (3,900m/12,795 ft): 445km, 8-9 hours

Leaving Saga, you head towards Shigatse alongside the Tsangpo River. After reaching Shigatse, you will  visit the Tashilhunpo Monastery and spend the night.

Day 19: Shigatse to Lhasa (3,650m/11,972ft): 265km, 4-5 hours

After an early morning breakfast, you will be driven towards Lhasa, passing through the Karo La Pass and Khamba La Pass. On today’s route you get  to check out Shalu Monastery and Yamdrok Lake.

Day 20: Final Departure
